If you’re a man and you’ve got a sneaking suspicion that you have a penile yeast infection, it can be something quite embarrassing that you don’t feel comfortable talking about. After all, aren’t yeast infections just something that happens to women?
Well, not exactly. You see yeast infections don’t care if you’re a man or a woman.
All they need to grow is the proper environment, namely moisture and the proper nutrients.
Many times a yeast infection can be passed from one person to the next from simple things like skin-to-skin contact or even sexual intercourse.
So, yes, a man can get a penile yeast infection. Here are some common symptoms to look for:
First, be on the lookout for any sort of yellow-ish or white-ish discharges from your urethra (the tip).
Second, the end may become inflamed or irritated with small and sporadic patches of white.
Third, sometimes you may feel a dull soreness following intercourse, though this does not happen in all cases.
And, if your immune system is severely compromised for one reason or another, you may also notice a significant amount of swelling and white patches. But again, this is not common in normal, healthy men.
So You’ve Got a Penile Yeast Infection – What Can You Do?
Well, the first thing you need to know is that Candida Albicans (the fancy scientific name for “yeast infection”) is spread often through skin-to-skin contact. Make sure you let any sexual partners know since they may need to be treated as well.
To get rid of a penile yeast infection, start by cutting off the yeast’s nutrient source. Like all living things, yeast needs food and water to grow. Keep your groin area dry and well ventilated by wearing loose-fitting clothing and boxer shorts. And also avoid wearing wet clothing such as a bathing suit. Generally just keep the area dry so that the yeast doesn’t get the moisture it needs to grow.
If you use any sort of body powder make sure that it does not contain cornstarch or any other form of glucose. Glucose is the primary food that yeast lives on, so you want to avoid this for the time being to help starve out your penile yeast infection.
Next we’re going to bring out some heavy-duty weapons to fight the infection.
Go to the grocery store and load up on anything that contains acidophilus – namely yogurt, but it can also be found in certain types of milk or other dairy products.
These are live bacteria cultures that will naturally help to fight the infection. Many times an infection can take root when your body lacks the “good bacteria” that keep your body healthy and safe from infections. It’s probably a good idea to eat yogurt with your breakfast in the morning in general too since this will help keep your levels of good bacteria at a healthy level too.
After about a week or so, you should notice that the penile yeast infection has cleared up. When this happens you can go back to any normal routines that you may have sacrificed in order to help the infection pass.
